A Kikoi is a rectangular piece of cloth about 66 by 40 in size with traditionally hand knotted ends. It’s made with 100% natural cotton and comes in truly vibrant colours. The yarn is dyed with eco-certified dye from Europe which also ensures fastness and its exceedingly high quality. It gets softer with time. The fabric’s uniqueness is its vibrancy and the coloured distinct parallel lines.

Kikois were traditionally worn by men in East Africa. They were originally hand woven, now machine made.

Its one of the most versatile garments you’ll ever own. It will add flair & style and is a summer essential. Here are some ideas if you are new to the kikoi culture:

How to Wear a Kikoi
As you would a beach towel, wrap the Kikoi around you and fold about a 2inch section and tuck it under to secure it. Unlike a beach towel, a kikoi stays secure for hours demanding very little attention if any. Like any new skill, it will soon be perfected with practice and wearing a kikoi will be natural.

Kikoi Care:
Wash in cold water and tumble dry low. Fold straight after. If drying in the sunlight, fold straight away from the washing line. No ironing necessary or iron with a cool iron.

The fascinating thing about a kikoi is that it softens as it ages from the wash and wear and the more cosy and comfortable it feels. The colour may eventually fade slightly after a few years but this only adds to its charm. There is nothing like it.
